RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory Course

This course will introduce you to the principles of astro navigation, the practical use of a sextant, measurement of time, compass checking, and position fixing by the sun, planets and stars. For modern sailors it’s not only a fascinating art, but an essential aid to electronic navigation when crossing oceans.

This course will also cover the concepts of worldwide meteorology, including tropical revolving storms, and passage planning for ocean voyaging. 

Required experience: Navigation to Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased standard.

The course consists of 6 weekend sessions: 9-10, 16-17 and 23-24 January 2027, from 10:00 to 18:00. The classes will be held at Finkenstr. 11, 85416 Langenbach (just a 5-minute walk from Langenbach railway station).

The course combines intensive classroom learning with homework during the week. The course includes one written exam. Participants who successfully complete the exam will receive an RYA certificate.
